RGS Garners Client Recognition for 2009 Defense Logistics Award - Best Logistics Strategy

Arlington, VA
December 8, 2009

RGS (RGS) of Arlington Virginia announced today that clients for two RGS-supported projects were recognized as the winner in the Best Logistics Strategy category at the 6th Annual North American Logistics Conference, Defense Logistics 2009 Award Ceremony. The winners were announced during a dinner attended by over 150 guests at the Marriott Crystal Gateway in Arlington, Virginia on 3 December, 2009. DOD, all Services, academia and industry were represented at the ceremony.

The Defense Logistics awards were established to honor logisticians in the US Department of Defense and Defense Industry that have made a significant contribution to military logistics. The Best Logistics Strategy award honors a logistics team whose program/initiative has significantly improved logistics processes and delivered logistics excellence. This years' award recognized the Sea Services' Naval Logistics Integration (NLI) and Navy-Coast Guard Logistics Integration (N-CGLI) initiatives. NLI/N-CGLI provides the foundation for the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard to move beyond logistics interoperability to an integration of Service logistics processes and technologies in support of the US Maritime Strategy.

The winners were selected by an unbiased judging panel from a group of finalists in each of five categories. "It's great to see the great collaboration between different DoD services as well as contractors. It shows we are all committed to supporting the warfighter through a synchronized, joint-force supply chain," said Jarrett Spagnoli, Executive Director, Defense Logistics. "We had the greatest interest in this year's awards program since its launch in 2004, and that's a testament to how far we've come in furthering the cause of the joint force."

"It is a great honor to be a part of recognizing these logisticians and programs for their tremendous efforts. This year's field of submissions was extremely competitive. I feel privileged to be involved," said Amol Tembe, Director, Defense Logistics. In all, there were 55 nominations submitted this year.

The successes enjoyed by NLI and N-CGLI are attributable to the efforts of many people - military, civil service and contractor personnel, working in harmony at all levels across numerous organizations. Accepting the award on behalf of the entire NLI/N-CGLI Team were RADM Kathleen Dussault, SC, USN (Director, Supply, Ordnance and Logistics Operations Division, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations); Brigadier General Robert Ruark, USMC (Assistant Deputy Commandant for Installations and Logistics (Plans), Headquarters U.S. Marine Corps); Mr. Jeffrey Orner, SES (Deputy Assistant Commandant, Engineering and Logistics, U.S. Coast Guard); Commander Kerry Pearson, SC, USN (Logistics Operations & Policy, Office of Chief of Naval Operations); and Mr. Randy Hodge (RGS' NLI/N-CGLI Project Lead).

Tom McMahon, President of RGS said, "we are very proud of the work this team has done and of our involvement within a team that is blazing a trail for others to follow in the area of joint logistics. RGS measures our success by the successes of our customers' initiatives and this award is outside recognition of the significant contribution this project has made to the improved support of the warfighter."
